Software and services for academic journals
Journal Nexus builds and runs three products for journal publishers: JMSNexus for hosting and publishing, ManuscriptFlow for submission and peer review, and PubCrafts for typesetting and XML. If you would rather not run them yourself, our team can manage the journal for you.
More than 40 journals already take submissions through our software, from publishers including Taru Publications, SPJ Publication and Sahara Digital Publications.
Our software
Each product covers one part of running a journal, and each can be used on its own. A journal that uses all three can take an article from submission to a published, DOI-registered page without sending files between companies.
JMSNexus
Journal hosting and publishing
Your journal’s website and admin panel in one place. Editors handle submissions, review, decisions and copy-editing in JMSNexus, then publish issues, register DOIs with Crossref and send newsletters from the same login. We host it, so there is nothing to install or update.
- Your own domain, or a free subdomain to start
- Crossref DOI deposits in one click
- Metadata that meets indexing requirements
- Free migration from your current system on paid plans
ManuscriptFlow
Online submission and peer review
Authors submit through a step-by-step form that saves as they go. Editors find reviewers by subject, run single- or double-blind review and send decision letters. Reviewers outside your network can respond through a secure link without creating an account.
Each journal gets its own login page, editorial board and reviewer pool, so a publisher can run several journals from one account.
PubCrafts New
Typesetting and XML
PubCrafts turns an accepted Word manuscript into the files a journal publishes. You upload the .docx, check what the software picked up (authors, affiliations, tables, figures and references) and approve it. It then produces a typeset PDF, an HTML version, an EPUB, JATS XML, an editable Word copy, Crossref, PubMed and DOAJ deposit files, and a zip with everything.
It uses your journal’s own layout and citation style, so your staff can publish an article the day it is accepted instead of sending it to a typesetter.

About Journal Nexus
We started in 2014 as a consultancy for universities, publishers and editors who wanted to start academic journals. Since then we have helped launch more than 100 journals and taken more than 30 of them through to Scopus indexing.
JMSNexus, ManuscriptFlow and PubCrafts grew out of that work. We use them on the journals we manage ourselves, which is why most of our services are delivered on them.

- 30+indexed in Scopus
